This and that and icons

I took a cute picture of Shadow (a floofy "black" cat) in the window watching a black squirrel in the tree and the Mavica informed me that the disk was full. Popped out the floppy and turned to my PC.... Oh right, the new PC doesn't have a floppy drive.
Next computer related project: get file sharing to work in the house LAN again.
I was pondering names today and analyzing my fondness for odd spellings of "ordinary" names. I like odd spellings for the way the name looks when it's written, which is probably the only reason to spell Erin as Eryn or Aeryn. Though after writing those out in cursive I have to say that Erin wins in the writing if not the reading.
Also on the name front, I once considered quite seriously changing my name (no, not to Tephra Lynn, despite some friends forgetting that it's not my legal name). You see, I have this thing about having initials that spell a word, in my case that would be LAD. Children being as they are that got my a fair amount of hassle, am I a boy or merely a dog? Damn I hate kids.
For the curious, I was thinking of taking the name Dana Lynn. You see if I had been a boy I would have been named Dana Andrew (DAD, wonderful initials for a girl :P ) after my uncle (Alathan Dana). Dana is a nice name, though I'm not sure I like the alliterative name scheme. Maybe Danalyn something, though not another D name, that would make the whole thing alliterative and curse me with DDD for initials. While I did indeed have bras with that cup size when I was thinner I really don't think it would have been all that fun to have the initials when I was younger.
You know, being Tephra Lynn legally does have an upside, the initials TLD just make the geek in me squeal with glee.
Today I learned about the Grey King and milgwn. I can now blissfully geek out comparing fox legends around the world and wander off into fanfic-y ideas regarding a certain sexy kitsune.
I still like the idea of demon bowls, so I must find a use for them somewhere in art or prose. They remind me of witch orbs, I need to find a use for them too.
My training makes me hate saying "I" so much but my english teachers would faint if they saw how much I write in fragments these days.
I must be really weird. One of my favorite things in the world is "recreational research." The feeling I get when I link up the history, mythology, and language of a culture and somehow link up parallels to another culture or cultures is just.... It's a geekgasm I swear.
I know I had more rambles in mind when I first thought of making an entry a couple hours ago.
[Edit: Oops, forgot one, and I might as well have one visible. From The Eyes of the Assassin, by I have no idea who.]
Icons! There are a lot of them so you get an LJ cut.
Herein I reveal my yaoi manga tastes. Most of these are more correctly called icon bases, pretty images but no text. Though it's only obvious in a few cases. If you use them please give credit (especially for the animated icons and the two color icons for I Can't Stop Loving You), and in the case of the Friendly Hostility icons give credit and link to the artist.
From Empty Heart by Masara Minase

From Elle to Takara by Tohko Muzino

From Friendly Hostility (online comic, shounen-ai) by K. Sandra Fuhr

From Koi wa Ina Mono Myouna Mono by Taishi Zaou (you know, if I didn't know they were from this manga I would swear that these are Shuichi and Yuki from Gravitation...)

From Memories of Water by Sakuragi Yaya (I made the animated one mostly for
toshirodragon)

From I Can't Stop Loving You by Roh Takakura (blame
toshirodragon for my Kyouji obsession...)
Icon making is addictive. @.@

Date: 2005-06-04 07:27 pm (UTC)I had a lot of fun colorizing the two icons of Kyouji and Yuu, I came up with some new techniques for coloring stuff that's already shaded/toned. I may have to hunt down some more images with similar shading to see if it holds up for more than portraits. I might try it on some pencil shaded stuff I have kicking around too.
Book two? More sexy monk?
Sakuragi Yaya... post, post! :)
