tephraI'm not feeling that well today, but much better now than twelve hours ago so I'm not complaining.
The broken lamp has a new shade. The style is different and it's smaller but with the bead trim from the old shade added it really looks rather nice. It does need a bit of work still, it wasn't meant for this style of lamp so it has an extra "lip" that I'm trying to figure out how to remove. I have a bottle cutter but the glass is a bit thicker than your average bottle. I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a dremel and some sort of cutting/grinding wheel.

hafoc, being the sweetie he is, actually bought me another lamp the day after the first took a header. He tried to sneak it in on his lunch hour but I happened to be in the house at the time so the sneaking didn't go so well. :)
On an unrelated note, I think people should go to his journal congratulate him on his first paid publication. :)
What else... I have brackets for the shelf. I have some doubts over whether or not the center bracket will hold though. The shelf is an odd shape, sort of an elongated and slightly lopsided D, and while the ends are 10" the center is 18" (the whole thing is 6' long). The widest portion will be right over my monitor (to save it from the cats jumping on it and sleeping on the vents) and I'm having visions of the cats jumping on the edge over the monitor and their weight flipping the shelf off the brackets, even with the shelf screwed to them. Maybe I'll bolt the shelf to the brackets, at least at the back edge.
I'm addicted to a reality TV show. Yes, I know, it's totally wrong. But I'm an INXS fan so watching them choose their new singer is interesting, and the added benefit is that the 15 (now down to 10) competitors can actually sing (though the first to go wasn't up to the level of the others). I've only missed one show (an elimination show where the bottom three from the public vote sing INXS songs and then the band sends one, or in the case of the show I missed, two, of them packing) and so far there haven't been more than about three painful performances.
I'm not so much voting for a favorite as I am picking the ones I want gone. So far, ignoring the show I missed, I have picked the ones to leave accurately. Now I'm just waiting for Brandon and JD to get their walking papers. JD's attitude is really starting to grate and his last couple performances weren't up to his usual standards. Brandon has a serious problem singing melody and his timing isn't as accurate as it should be.
And I suspect that Tara won't make it. As much as I like her as a singer, and as cool as I think she is as a performer, I don't think the band feels she'll fit with them (based on her last performance).
Suzie, Jessica, and Deanna are a bit all over the place with their performances, the actual singing is pretty good but the song choices they've made are a bit dicey (though I can't really blame them, they have to pick a song out of a set where there is only one song per singer and they have to negotiate with each other for the one they want). Suzie is the weakest of the three and I'm certain she won't be the winner, it's just a question of how far she'll make it. I adore Deanna's voice, she did a Melissa Etheridge song and I liked it. I generally am predisposed to hate people doing covers of my favorite songs so that was a major feat. Jessica... I like her voice but stylistically she's been all over the place and she seems to be getting a bit irritated with the reviews she's getting from the band and the advice she's getting in the clinics. I expect she'll be eliminated at some point.
Of the men left I'm really enjoying both Mig and Marty's performances, I just don't know if they really fit the band. I wouldn't hate it if either of them won though. Ty however... great voice, good performances, just not really fitting the band. Like Jessica he seems to be taking the input from the band and the assorted pros in the clinics less than graciously.
And that leaves Jordis. I really like Jordis. She was the first performer we saw in the very first show and, frankly, no one has lived up to her performances yet. The band has had only one criticism for her (for a dropped line in her performance before last) and even that was smothered in praise for how she recovered and the rest of her performance. I think the last show, where she did a much more sedate "unplugged" performance, almost crying as she sang and managing to get INXS all choked up with her singing, was the "last straw" in the eyes of some of the other performers (JD in particular). I'm expecting some snarkiness behind her back from some of them. Jordis herself has taken a "like water off a duck's back" approach to the minor stings from the others thus far. I suspect she knew from the band's reaction to her very first performance that she'd face some problems from the others and each performance where she gets nothing but praise from the band has only added to that.
