Jun. 15th, 2005 09:32 pmSo, think I should pitch the idea of CSI: Atlantis at CBS? (I actually think it would be sort of cool, if done right. Of course they'd have to actually work out the rules of their advanced science/magic beforehand....)

Damn, no wonder they get six seasons out of it. ;>
('scuse me, need to mop up the drool.)
I'm rather lab-geeky myself. I liked working in the lab more than the field as a geologist (and working in the field more than writing the papers.)

Date: 2005-06-16 05:51 am (UTC)ARGH! I just finished a bat girl not that long ago. *pout*
And how would they hold their weapons? Never mind the perennial problem of dressing bats... obviously this will have to be a naked bat ninja.

Date: 2005-06-20 12:54 am (UTC)As for weapons, perhaps they don't hold weapons. Maybe they have a bladed framework that slips over their wings -- I am not explaining this very well. Bat wings are mostly elongated, webbed fingers, with a tiny hook-finger at the wrist joint. Perhaps they have thin blades that hook over that small finger and stretch along the outermost finger to fit over the tip? It could have a hollow tube piece to fit over the bone, with a long slit to accomodate the webbed skin, and stay attached and at the right angle for the blade to stick outwards and be used. You couldn't sheathe it, though.

I can't imagine having "real" fur and wearing most of the human style clothing you generally see furries wearing (mine included). Whenever I think about an anthro-bat society I decide that they pretty much go topless, nude of the wing membrane goes lower than the hipbones.
Wing blades are about all I could come up with myself, even with my tendency to give my bats a thumb and finger (using three fingers to form the wing). Ninja with only one type of weapon don't seem very ninja-ish to me though. I'll let the idea stew for a while and see what turns up. :)

Date: 2005-07-05 07:14 pm (UTC)Both versions of Sakai's Bat-Ninjas had long, sharp sword-blades attached somehow to the leading edge of their wings, though just how they're attached remains a mystery.
I could have sworn that I'd scanned that pic from AC already, but it's not in any of my directories. I haven't hooked up the scanner since the move; give me a chance to do so, and I'll get it to you.
I tend to agree on furries and human-style clothing. I tend to assume that Renaissance-garbed folks in Ironclaw are wearing much lighter linen versions of the heavy woolen garments like humans of the period wore. (Chafing, mange, andheat issues aside, where would they get wool? The Chevernaise don't take kindly to being shorn...)
My personal preferences to anthropomorphic clothing (above and beyond a simple loincloth) lean toward loose, open, draped clothing, much like a Roman toga. I have no problem seeing an anthro bat (especially a decadent diplomat like Lord Nik) in such an outfit -- even one with a proper finger-to-toe patagium.
In IRONCLAW, Lord Nik carries a pair of Main Gauches (would the one in his right hand be a Main Droit?)... and a wheellock carbine. He doesn't use ANY of'em in the air. In the current rules, Ironclaw Bats can only use one-handed weapons while flying, and only if they can stay above their Stall Speed. The can also use weapons in their Prehensile Feet, but they take a penalty.
