Jimi Hooker gives us the final word on nutrition and health:
The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Bristish or Americans. The French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heaart attacks than the Brits or Americans. The Japanes drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Brist or Yanks. The Italians drink huge amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the above. The Germans drink a lot of beer and suffer fewer heart attacks than, etc., etc.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like-- speaking English is what kills you.

Date: 2005-03-09 12:17 am (UTC)My Spanish was pretty good when I was actively studying it (reading, writing, and comprehension anyway, I can't roll an r to save my life) but I can't say I can follow it now after nearly 10 years of no using it.
Japanese fascinates me but like Mandarin it's not something I'd ever manage to get functionally literate in. While I can, with a bit of practice, transliterate hiragana and katakana to romanji (which I then need to look up) I know there's really no hope of knowing kanji.
