Remember how I pruned my bookmarks from 3500+ down to under 700? Well thanks to Firefox Sync being stupid they are all back. You see I fired up the laptop, which I forgot was set up to sync, and it put them all back in the version on the sync server, since it does that without asking you if it should even if there are huge discrepancies between the two files. So of course, when I booted up today my desktop synced and FUCK they're all back.

Really, is it so hard to make a sync service that designates one machine as the Master so when you tell it to use that machine's data to overwrite the sync data it then doesn't let the subordinate machines fuck it up?!

I need to go in on the laptop, delete the bookmark file there, and then redo all the bookmark clean up that took me weeks all over again.

Fuck you, Firefox Sync, with a porcupine, sideways.

Okay, since this a rant post it will make a good place to try to figure out what I need to do to make the new LJ comment system clusterfuck functional. So far what I have done is to forbid javascript from Facebook using No Script, that has made the "post a new comment" button be not greyed out. Don't ask me why the fuck that works, but it does.

Next comment will be attempting to get the usericon thing to let me pick something other than my default.

Okay.... when I went to forbid facebook.net to see if that would give me the icon picker it some how deleted my previously posted commment. O.o Oh LJ why to you fuck with things that don't need to be fucked with?

So the last two comments weren't deleted, even though they disappeared and did not reappear for several reloads of the page.

Anyway, you can forbid facebook.COM and facebook.NET and get the post button to work but if you forbid twitter you lose the post button. so if you are using NoScript you need to do some tweaking.

Okay, allow facebook.NET and twitter and livejournal, FORBID facebook.COM and you get the post button (for some reason if you ALLOW facebook.COM you lose the post button?!?).

Still no icon choice.

So, you need to type something to get the post button to activate, which it won't do consistently since I've been typing this whole time and it's still greyed out.

Therefore I copied the above, reloaded, and then clicked the post a new comment button and now I have the post button again. I will experiment some more with blocking scripts and reloading since if I have to reload anyway to get the posting to work there's no point to allowing excess scripts.

I refreshed after my last post and now I have a clean comment editor. Also and active post button.

Still no icon browser. That did work when I tried Chrome rather than Firefox. I don't know what could be blocking that here, something with AdBlock most likely though I don't see what.

Note that I can't get commenting to work AT ALL in the lj_releases post where they announced this atrocity. I may be making a LOT less comments around LJ if I can't get this thing to work consistently.

Well that's better than me, I got nothing at the moment. I can't even get my post button to reply to this. And even typing isn't turning this on. At the moment I have turned off AdBlock, allowed everything, and taken off all my userstyles, still nothing.

AHA! it's one of my Greasemonkey scripts.... maybe. Further testing is required.

End result of my testing:

If you have the Greasemonkey script "Disconnect", which was written to remove the Facebook and Twitter crossposting of comments, you will need to remove it to use the new LJ comment system.

LJ New Comments script is no longer useful as the text where the NEW label would appear is now hidden until you mouseover.
