tephra: Close up of doll hands holding knitting in working position. (knitting)

While we were without internet for all of Friday and half of Saturday I managed to finish up a few knitting projects and write (and get sucked into reading my own writing, again).

I'm still writing biographies for the characters I will be using to answer the questions asked in my last post. Hopefully I'll get a few more questions to work on by the time I'm done with the biographies. Since I have just four out of fifteen done it might take all week unless I hit on a really good writing streak, or learn brevity.

Please feel free to go back and ask more questions. You don't have to work up a "really good one" you know, even simple things like "what is eleven's favorite color" can lead to some character development. :)

Not everything I finished up on Friday has been photographed, and some of this is things finished before that and just not documented here previously.

I finished the crochet hat and had one day cold enough to actually wear it before putting it away for fall/winter.

Crochet Netted Cloche - Rolled Brim Crochet Netted Cloche

The first photo is how I thought I would be wearing it when I started but to really work it would need another row or two in the net pattern and there was no way that I would have enough yarn. I really like how it looks in the traditional cloche mode so I'm happy with it.

Now this one is a reknit of the pattern I made up for Bill's cable hat, with some modifications of the crown shaping:

Lime Cables

I think the changes to the crown make for a better fit, though I don't think I'll be using this super bulky yarn (Lion Brand's Hometown USA) to knit it again, it makes a super heavy and dense hat. I do like the yarn though, and have half a skein left (about 40 yards, if you have an idea for 40 yards of super bulky acrylic yarn let me know!). I'd like to knit with this yarn again, but super bulky yarn and super bulky people are rarely a good match. XD

I finished the tank top for Namid, it's too big but she can wear it until I get around to knitting another. I really like this color on her, even if it photographs poorly, so I'll likely knit it again in the same thread, just 75% of the current size.

She is wearing it with her vest right now, which takes care of the huge amount of excess fabric in the back.

Coachella & Vest Emerald Chain Necklace

That neckline needed some jewelry so beads, chain, and wire were called into service.

Then, since the 4/0 needles were free again, I grabbed my print out of Ysolda Teague's Cloud Bolero pattern and my #30 crochet thread:

Tiny Cloud Bolero - Front Tiny Cloud Bolero - Back

It's adorable, in my opinion, but that thread on those needles was a nightmare. It was stiff and tight and I put a curve into my steel needles knitting it.

So of course I did it again, with perle cotton:

Red Cloud - Front Red Cloud - Bright Side Red Cloud - Back Red Cloud - Dark Side

It's a smidge big but we can live with it. Namid might try it on later but it definitely will not cover her bust, the question becomes would it cover enough to look reasonable (and if so will Anjeni allow it to be swiped by her mom).

For undocumented things, I actually knit some on that shawl I started... two years ago. I needed the needle tips from that for my socks, for the knee shaping section, so the shawl is once again on hold while the tips are in the socks. I don't know if my knee shaping idea will work, so there's a life line in the socks so if it doesn't I can just pull the needle out and rip back with no worries.

I finished a hat for Namid but it definitely doesn't suit what she's wearing so she refuses to have her photo taken with it on. I'll get it the next time I change her into something more casual... which will happen after I make her something more casual to wear.

I'm nearly finished with yet another brimmed cotton hat for myself. I needed to knit one so I could write down how to knit the brim for a pattern (previously I just winged it as I went).

I also knit up a swatch for a bit of a shoulder wrap that I've been toying with writing a pattern for, but to be completely happy with it I need to work out how to turn a corner with the edging and I haven't quite figured that out yet. The problem is that the edging is fairly narrow, eight stitches, and only four rows long, and involves two double yarn overs, combined that severely limits where short rows could be inserted to miter the corner. The edging also tends to bias, which I think I could possibly use to my favor if I could just figure out how.

Oh, and I have 3" of weft done for Namid's wig, I need another 4" on that piece before I can sew it to the wig cap and get the wig going.
