Weekend Progress
Nov. 21st, 2010 11:52 pmI totally forgot to update yesterday. I had a nice car trip and lunch out and still managed to write some and get to 36,686 words.
Today I reached 38,391 words. I'm still two days ahead and I hope to get to 40k tomorrow.
It's been a while, so before there are two many photos, a knitting update.
Months ago, Caron International did a yarn give away and I got a ball of their microfiber acrylic/merino wool blend yarn in a coral-ish color called Sunset. I had no idea what to do with it but I had a yen to knit something new last month so I grabbed the yarn and a pattern I wanted to knit and whipped up a hat.

This yarn is cabled, which means each ply is a thinner yarn. It's also not spun really tight so it wanted to act more like five really fine yarns held together rather than as a unified yarn. Wrapping the yarn the opposite way around my ring finger for tension helped with that a bit but it's still rather splitty for me. I do like the yarn though, so nice and silky soft. I want to think of more things to knit with it, though anything that takes more than one ball will have to wait for a sale.
Using up yarn I have stashed around was a bit of a theme. I finally used up the last of the "pumpkin" orange yarn from making a safety orange hat for my brother.

I used the safety orange yarn, another milder orange yarn, and a nice soft mid range yellow yarn held together for a bulky cable knit hat of my own design. This is the third iteration of the hat and I think once more will finalize the design. I definitely need to stick with doubled worsted or bulky for it, using tripled worsted or super bulky makes for an extremely dense hat.
More scrap using, my NaNo slippers!

I wore them all day today after I finished them.
Finally, the third dalek for my brother's stuffed dalek collection.

Doesn't look like much yet. And the photo is out of date, imagine there are three rows of beads on it. :)
