Yeah, still not home
Aug. 20th, 2008 02:34 pmJeep is having some issues, hope to have that solved on Friday. Also hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Probably just in time for the couch Mom bought to arrive so as the only member of the family with no back problems I'll be doing the bulk of the lifting to get it positioned. Or my brother's new mattress set will get in so I'll be helping with that. I don't mind helping with the heavy lifting, particularly since my brother effectively broke his back about 5 years ago (bacterial infection inside the spinal column that ate its way out, his spine collapsed and he lost the equivalent of one vertebra in his spine), but at this stage the timing is kicking all the dark humour buttons. Will I ever get to go home?!

Hang in there.
*So glad the boyfriend is apparently immune to things being too heavy. He throws my lanky ass around. ;)

Date: 2008-08-21 04:19 pm (UTC)The back, that is just scary. I happened to be here when it started, he had horrendous back pain so I drove him to the chiropractor and then to the hospital for an MRI and they found nothing. A couple weeks after I got back home the infection broke through and he was hospitalized while they dealt with the free infection and got him into a brace to keep his spinal cord from being damaged. It's remarkable that he didn't suffer any nerve damage and has full mobility, but due to the two partial vertebra fusing together he doesn't have as much flexibility in his back and his back muscles have to do more work to keep him upright. By the end of the day he's pretty done for, muscle spasms as soon as he gets off his feet. Hopefully the new mattress will help a bit with restful sleep since it will be more supportive.

Date: 2008-08-21 04:23 pm (UTC)Tomorrow will tell on the Jeep, I'm hoping it's just a leaky seal someplace easy to get to. It seems to be a leaky joint just behind the passenger front wheel that gets in trouble with tight turns (like getting into the tight parking spaces around here).

Date: 2008-08-23 02:32 am (UTC)The leaks turned out to be minor but while they were in there they found other things, like needing new front brakes and a new trac bar (part of the front end stabilizing system). And since they had the front end all apart, a realignment was in order. The main thing is the many hours of labor, about eight of them at nearly $90 an hour.
I should go back to school and become a mechanic.
