i saw you mention in the replies that you'd like a book with some info on fibres. "knitting rules" by stephanie pearl-mcphee has an awesome section on this; specifically, she gives a guide to identifying mystery fibres. by using various tests like burning and bleaching, you can figure out if an unknown yarn is wool, acrylic, silk, etc. very useful!
