Well my contract is finished so back to studying and job hunting. Actually my last day was Thursday but I did absolutely nothing yesterday. I've been feeling a bit under the weather for the last several days so I opted to spend most of yesterday sleeping. I feel lots better now.

Between naps I played around with a scan of the drawing Jirris did for me at FC. I generally scan things at 600dpi, even though I end up working on something half that size when I do my digital coloring thing, the PC can't handle the larger image (and sometimes it can't handle the half size one either). Anyway, I kept the full resolution and added two layers to the image, one a solid white at 25% opacity, and then one that was approximately "non-photo" blue in overlay mode. The end result? A light blue sketch image. I then had to reduce the image in order to print it (not enough memory to handle the full thing, alas) but even at 300dpi it worked out well. I printed out a few and I'm playing around with inking them. I almost like my first attempt but I got sloppy with the brush pen in a couple places. I'll give it another go later. Jirris' style and mine aren't all that similar really, far less so than I thought originally anyway. This became apparent when I was inking the hair, his style is far more angular than mine.

If I can scan the resulting inked image and clear out the blue easily this will be the way I handle inking my own stuff in the future. I lose so much of the 'life' in my sketches when I ink and doing it this way will give me the chance to 'undo' my inking screw-ups. :)
