Mitt Romney and same sex marriage opponents
Mitt Romney is just so petty. He's using a law made in 1913 to prevent interracial marriage to invalidate marriages of out of state gay couples. The law, which prevents marriages of couples that could not legally marry in their home state, hasn't been enforced for at least 40 years. Since gay marriage isn't legal in any other state only gay couples that can prove residency in Massachusetts can get married. The Senate has already voted to repeal the 1913 law (it's a rider on the budget), the House still has to vote, and Mitt has already stated his intention to veto the repeal if it gets to him.
His rationalization of using this law? Massachusetts should not force its laws on other states. Hmm, seems to me that the old Blue Laws used to get pretty close to doing that....
The good news, at least 4 towns have ignored Romney's pouting and married people anyway, Provincetown (unsurprisingly, P-town is very gay friendly and has a large gay community), Worcester, Springfield, and Somerville. Romney has already demanded the records from these towns but has not yet invalidated any marriages.
Suck it up Mitt, you and your bigoted ilk lost. Grow up.
